Halfway to Valhalla

By Ron McVan

I’m half way to Valhalla, many deeds to be done,
Great challenges before me, future battles to be won.

My Gods, they reign in Asgard, though I feel them deep inside,
And they all serve their purpose there, to each one I confide.

For without the Gods, and warriors strong,
A race and culture won’t last long,
All main-sails would break, devastations unfold,
And helm and rudder, would not hold!

Peace has a price, as does freedom you’ll find,
They are paid for in blood, by our warrior kind,
By those who stand bravely, where others turn in fear,
True heroes never yield, when death is near!

Myths and traditions, are the ties that bind,
Preserving one’s homeland, one’s folk and kind!
Both unfold, towards the greater good,
Constructing a culture and nationhood!

Not all life is struggle, we make time to have fun,
To love and make memories, neath the moon and the sun.
But life is a schoolroom, not a playground they say,
And for each happy moment there are hardships to pay.

As I stare through the distance of infinite space,
Watching stars as they glimmer and glow everyplace,
I know better worlds await everyone,
And I think on these thoughts, when each earth day is done.
But my ‘Now’, is reality, and my time is not run,
I’m still half way to Valhalla, many deeds to be done!
